Deanna Driscoll & Rafael Goldstein rehearse a scene from Cygnet Theatre's production of Keiko Green's play SHARON

About Me

Rafael grew up in Altadena, CA, the son of an English professor and a neuropsychologist (one brought plays home, the other the DSM-IV). At the age of 3, he assayed his first speaking role at a non-denominational church in Los Angeles and liked it very much.  He booked his first professional gig at the age of 12 (playing a young Orson Welles in The Great Houdini at Hollywood's Stella Adler Theater), then attended the LA County High School for the Arts.  As a freshman he became involved with A Noise Within Classical Repertory, where he received an alternate education as a working classical actor.  He then headed to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and the Atlantic Theater Company where he picked up many of his tricks and a BFA.

Upon returning to LA, he has captivated audiences and critics alike with his "jangled, dangerous" performances that "you'll be talking about long after...the house lights come up."

"Watching anyone else when Rafael Goldstein...is around is a real challenge. He dominates the production—slouching on every set piece like he owns it, comfortable everywhere...He's the life of the party and the play..."(Talkin'Broadway)

"Being able to witness Goldstein perform a Shakespearean monologue is a divine pleasure..."(Stage Raw)

"Then something magical happens: The language is so transparent and powerful, and Goldstein is such a compelling performer...we get invested."(LA Times)
